Anticipating the Needs of the Marketplace.

Throughout our company’s history, Nonpareil has been known as a potato innovator. In 1946, Nonpareil began as “Idaho Potato Packers,” a New York City distributor of fresh Idaho potatoes. In the 1950s, we opened our first office in Blackfoot, Idaho, to better control the quality and supply of potatoes.

Over the years, we’ve expanded into new markets, like frozen and dehydrated potatoes, and constructed new, high-tech facilities. In July 1995, Nonpareil opened its new corporate offices and technical center, housing new product development facilities and a microbiology laboratory.

Recently, we developed farm capabilities and constructed new production facilities in O’Neill, Nebraska. These new facilities have expanded the product options we are able to offer our customers. Today, we continue to seek opportunities for expansion and strategic partnerships which will allow us to better meet our customers’ needs.

It all starts out in the field where we evaluate new potato varieties and test new farming techniques each season. We harvest and buy only the best of the best.

Once the potatoes are harvested, our innovative handling, sorting, and sizing techniques ensure that you receive only the highest-quality premium fresh potatoes.

Because we manufacture so many different types of potato products, we are able to match each potato with its best use. As a result, our fresh potatoes are second to none.

Our technological innovations extend into the packaging of our products. Nonpareil was the first company to package and market fresh potatoes in five- and ten-pound polyfilm bags. We also offer attractive, consumer-oriented four-color packaging and bin wrap.

The Ingredients For Success.

Our patented Nonpareil Extracts technology is helping make all kinds of great-tasting foods taste even better. For example, we’ve developed Nonpareil Extracts which protect and enhance food flavors by retaining the natural antioxidants found in some potato varieties. Other Extracts exploit the potato’s unique protease enzyme inhibition property for use in surimi, fish, meat, poultry, and other products containing high levels of protease enzyme. The list continues with Extracts which make excellent cost-effective super-binders, natural fat replacers, texture builders, and flavor enhancers. And at usage levels up to 2%, the USDA allows Potato Extracts to be labeled “natural flavoring.”

Our Scratch Match potato casseroles are available in a wide range of exciting styles and flavors, like sour cream and chives or O’Brien julienne. Plus, we are constantly adding new products and refining existing product lines.

At Nonpareil, our operations and engineering staff work around the clock analyzing, troubleshooting, designing, and implementing improvements in our production techniques. For example, when we realized that our mechanical systems weren’t keeping up with our ultra-modern optical sorting systems, Nonpareil engineers designed, produced, and patented a new retrofitable reject module. This pneumatic valve can open or close in 30 millionths of a second, greatly increasing production at Nonpareil and at the numerous other companies which have purchased these innovative rejection modules from us.

Our quality assurance and process control departments perform continuous testing to maintain the highest standards. Trained technicians monitor every critical point on our process lines. As a result, all Nonpareil facilities have achieved “Superior” and “Excellent” ratings from the American Institute of Baking (AIB), the preeminent sanitation and food safety inspectors.
